Convicted robber spotted in South Gloucestershire after walking out of open prison

A CONVICTED robber is believed to have been spotted in Rangeworthy after walking out of Leyhill Open Prison.

Ian Betton was last seen by staff at the prison at 6am today.

He was reported missing at about 12.30pm today but police believe he may have been spotted in the Rangeworthy at about 8am.

Betton, who as at the prison serving a sentence for robbery and driving offences, is white, aged 44, 5ft 10in tall and of medium build.

He has brown hair and brown eyes and a goatee beard.
Officers believe he may be trying to reach the Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire area, where he has links.
Anyone who sees Betton is being advised not to approach him but to call 999, quoting incident number 5220 017 900.
