Cyclist seriously injured in collision with van

A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries after a collision in the centre of Downend.

Police and ambulance crews were called to Downend Road, opposite the Horseshoe pub, at around 8am today.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson said a male cyclist had been injured in the incident, which also involved a van.

The spokesperson added: “He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.”

The road was re-opened shortly after 10am.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “We were called at 7.55am about a collision reportedly involving a bicycle and a vehicle on Downend Road.

Our crews treated a male patient at the scene for a suspected head injury. He was conveyed to hospital by land ambulance for further care.”
