Scarecrows take over Winterbourne to raise money for school
A SCARECROW trail is capturing the imagination of Winterbourne residents – and raising money for a school in the village.
Kay Harris started the trail to support St Michael’s Primary School, where her children are pupils. The school is still open for the children of key workers and vulnerable youngsters and Kay set up a crowdfunding page to help buy library books and play equipment.
Kay said the trail had “taken the village by storm”, with more than 210 on the map in a variety of guises, from superheroes and movie characters to VE Day tributes including Winston Churchill and Colonel Tom.
She said: “The support and participation has been completely overwhelming.
“I am so grateful to live in such a wonderful community and we have really come together.”
The money is being donated via a GofundMe page and will be given to the St Michael’s Parent Teacher Association to spend.
As of Monday afternoon around 100 donors had raised more than £1,000 for the appeal - you can donate here.
